Kamikaze Happy Hour
[Updated: Now closed]
On Sunday night, I went out not for cocktails, but for half-price sushi rolls at Sushi Square on 72nd and Biscayne. Order before 7:30 p.m. and any roll on the menu is half price. This used to be just a Sunday special, which is why I insisted we go — I didn’t want [...]
La Sandwicherie
Rick’s post today about SotP Reader’s Best Of South Florida made me think of the places I really like to go to in Miami. Last night I had dinner at La Sandwicherie on South Beach, which definitely makes my list. The concept and the locale of this small French deli, unlike the quality of its [...]
Nuevo American at Johnny V
[Closed]
Last week I attended the opening of Johnny V South Beach, the new restaurant at the Astor Hotel (where Metro Kitchen used to be). The chef: Johnny Vinczencz of the restaurant by the same Johnny V name in Fort Lauderdale. The food: dubbed Nuevo American, — described by the chef as traditional American fare with [...]
Dine & Dish 7: Like a Virgin to Sheba
[Update: Sheba is now closed]
Last Friday night my palate was aroused – touched for the very first time – by the flavors of Sheba’s Ethiopian grub. And yeah, it made me feel, ooh, ooh, it made me feel, like a virgin. Wooh!
Like a Virgin is the theme of the seventh Dine & Dish, a food [...]
Seafood at Garcia’s
(Note: I’m experiencing difficulties with my camera but as soon as I resolve them I will update this post with a few pictures).
Sometimes I’m amazed about the many wonderful eateries that seem to have escaped my attention during my ten years living in Miami. But I’m glad that as a result of this blog, many [...]
Birthday bites around Miami
Okay, so I lied. I know I said I’d keep up with Mango&Lime while my family was in town but I was a little too ambitious. In fact, this blog didnt even enter my mind while they were here. On the upside, I enjoyed every bite in their company – I wasnt overly concerned with [...]
It’s Bagel Time
When I first moved into my apartment two years ago, I was happy that I had several food choices within walking distance, a change from my previous home. My first discovery in my new neighborhood was Bagel Time.
“You’re new in the neighborhood,” Mel, the owner, told me as I paid for my bagel that first [...]
Captain’s Tavern
Yesterday’s Miami Cross Blogination posts made for fun reads. By far my favorite was the review of Kendall seafood restaurant Captain’s Tavern by Michael of Discourse.net. The review appeared on Critical Miami as part of the cross-blogging.
…plenty of people who’ve lived here for years have never noticed what may be the area’s top fish restaurant, [...]
Colombian fare at La Moon
I’ve been seeing La Moon Restaurant on 8th street (between SW 1st and 2nd avenues) every morning for months now. I was intrigued by a sign on the side of the building that reads: perros colombianos (Colombian hot dogs). Thinking that it just sold Colombian hot dogs — I’ll leave explaining what makes a hot dog Colombian for another day — I hadn’t thought of going. But as I found out yesterday when four of us headed there, La Moon serves a full menu of Colombian and not-so-Colombian dishes.
Two for Tuesday at Perricone’s
I love good deals. At almost 29, I find myself in the same predicament as friends when it comes to money — we have to make an effort to make it stretch. Doesn’t matter how much we earn or try to save, we have to pay Miami rent prices after all. Among my money-saving strategies, [...]
Sunsets and fresh catch at Stop Miami
Stop Miami hosts Sunset Sessions and a Thai Barbecue menu on Tuesdays. Recently someone clued me in on their whole grilled fish and I’d been dying to try it, so I decided to stay for dinner.
