The first incarnation of gastroPod Miami debuted next door to the Miami Independent Thinkers exhibit last year during Art Basel. The trailer then was an no-frills version of the sleek Air Stream that roams our streets today bringing us good food.
How quickly time flies.
Tomorrow (Dec. 1), chef Jeremiah Bullfrog’s second truck (g2) will hit the pavement with Gilt City Miami and guest chef Timon Balloo of Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill at the Graffiti Gone Global Fresh Produce exhibit.
Chef Jeremiah had been toying around with the idea of launching a second trailer for a while but it all went into motion on the drive back to Miami from New York after the Star Chefs conference. He stopped in South Carolina where the person who built the first gastroPod mentioned that he had another trailer that could be ready in a short amount of time. Those were the magic words.
“We thought: what a cool thing it would be for our first year anniversary to come out with the second one,” he said.
g2 and Gilt City Miami will be at several art fairs through Saturday. Other chefs, including Howie Kleinberg of Bulldog BBQ and Cindy Hutson of Ortanique, will also make guest appearances on the truck. And helping chef Jeremiah throughout Art Basel will be Katsuya Fukushima, formerly the head chef of the José Andres restaurants minibar and Café Atlantico in Washington, D.C.
