Calling all pie bakers! Slow Food Miami is hosting a picnic and pie-making contest on Saturday, May 30 at the Barnacle in Coconut Grove. The picnic, which runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., will feature live music by local Afro-Cuban band PALO! Admission is $5 and you bring your own picnic basket filled with your choice of foods and wine. And don’t worry about the sun; the eating will take place under the shade of the park’s pavilion.
Nine hopefuls have entered the pie contest so far. You can enter when you sign up to attend the picnic here by stating so in the comments box. Bonus points will be awarded for use of local and original ingredients. Pies must arrive on site no later than 11:30 a.m. Oh, yes, and make sure you get creative when naming your pie.

I am making a Man come Man go mango pie…..long story but it’s time to bring the brand back!!! See you there. I bought a big slab of marble at the Marble and Stone place, on US 1 and 27th ave for only $20. I will use it for rolling out pie dough.
The name is an old boyfriend thing…..
I’m trying to convince Rachael to help me bake one!
Donna – I’m loving the name of your pie! I’m sure everyone has an old boyfriend story that would fit the name. Looking forward to trying it.
Vic – The Coral Gables forces should get together and try our hands at pie.
