Now open: Sake Room
The sushi restaurant next to Bin 18 is now open. We didn’t try it last night, opting instead to do the usual at Bin 18. I must confess we wondered if it was even open because it was completely empty when we walked by. The good news is, on our way out, we saw several […]
Getting to know kale
Kale was one of the ingredients in our third CSA box that I wasn’t too familiar with. Everything else — canistel, black sapote, scallions, red leaf lettuce, dill, watercress, arugula and green peppers – seemed pretty manageable, which I’ve found increases our odds of using it. Last week, for instance, we got oranges, lettuces, […]
Coral Gables Farmers Market
Today we headed to the Coral Gables Farmers Market. It’s not that I’ve been on some sort of farmers market rampage. Or maybe I have. In reality, I’m just trying to learn more about our local food and what’s available to us. I was also there to meet Miami’s Slow Food convivium leader and to […]
First impressions: Brosia
Not knowing that Brosia held its official opening party Thursday, D and I headed there for dinner last night. What first strikes you about this latest addition to the Design District is its interior — and exterior. The restaurant’s outside plaza, which is surrounded with walls lined with turquoise and green mosaics dotted with star-shaped […]
A note about Grimpa Steakhouse
We went to Grimpa for caipirinhas ($12), but as the hostess walked us to the bar, she gave us what looked like a menu. It really was a guide to the meat cuts they serve and the concept of Brazilian rodizio. Smart move on their part. What started off as a visit for a drink turned into a debate about whether we should eat there as we drooled over photos of steak.
Upper East Side Green Market
Right after D and I picked up this week’s CSA box, we headed to the Upper East Side Green Market that started today at Legion Memorial Park on Biscayne and 64th.
Turnips, check. Cilantro, check. A CSA update.
The week has been extremely hectic for me but surprisingly, I’ve been able to make use of a decent chunk of my produce, so I thought I’d give a quick update with links to recipes (since I have little time).
I cut up the turnips in cubes, placed them in a roasting pan with cubed apples, […]
Two markets to try this weekend
A lot of Miamians seem to be on the look-out for good farmers markets. Here are two to try starting this weekend.
- The Upper East Side Green Market opens Saturday, January 12, at 9 a.m. in front of Legion Park  (6447 NE 7th Avenue)[via Critical Miami].
- The South Florida Farmer’s Market (featuring produce from Redland Organics, […]
Hope for a South Florida farmers market?
Just spotted a post about a farmers market in Homestead via Critical Miami. Looking at the photos it reminds me of the type of markets you can find in Latin America. Maybe there is hope for a good market around these places, although it’s still quite a trek for a lot of us to make […]
My first CSA box
Here it is, our first Redland Organics CSA box. We picked it up today and I immediately got to finding out more about some of its contents and what I may do with them. Since it’s a lot of food (only full shares are available for trial memberships) I figured I’d try to plan ahead […]
New year, slow start
It’s so hard, to get back into the swing of things after almost two weeks of doing nothing but eating and vegging at my parents’ home in Houston. I’ve been slowly working myself up to full productivity levels, including getting back to blogging — and here I am.
Coming up, expect reports on a few restaurants […]
