Nice to meet you, Giacomo Vico

Giacomo Vico Barbera D’Alba Superiore 2003

Don’t you love discovering something you really like? At a wine tasting at Casa Toscana on Thursday, I tried a Giacomo Vico Barbera D’Alba Superiore and right there, I fell in love. This is a full-bodied and intense Piedmontese red wine. Though our tasting notes described it as dry, it was incredibly smooth and so easy to drink, I took a bottle home ($36 the night of the tasting; $41 regularly). Coincidentally, we spotted a Giacomo Vico Barbera D’Alba the following night on the shelves of La Gastronomia in the Gables. Oddly, it wasn’t on the wine list so I might have just missed it had I not tried it at the tasting.

Glad to meet you, Mr. Vico. You’re a new favorite of mine.

More on the Barbera grape here.
