Aaaah, where else but at Stop Miami? One of my favorite places in town, this small and cozy wine and tapas joint in Wynwood has all of my favorite things: good food and wine, great music and nice people. I stopped by last night not planning to eat there; my friend and I are celebrating our 29th (argh!) birthdays there so we wanted to work out the details of the party. But I had forgotten it was Tuesday — Thai Barbecue time.
Stop has been hosting this event, coined Sunset Sessions, — I’m guessing because you can see the sunset from their window — for some months now. The Thai Barbecue menu, the work of Chef Ronnie Jariyawiria, is simple, with few dishes, so far none disappointing.
Not too long ago, I ate the Ebisu rolls of cucumbers stuffed with avocado, shrimp and tangerine, which were tasty and pleasantly refreshing. But recently someone clued me in on their whole grilled fish and I’d been dying to try it, so I decided to stay for dinner.
Outside by the grill, in Stop’s patio, Chef Ronnie showed me the three types of fresh fish he had — vermillion snapper, porgy and triggerfish — and explained the differences.
“Caught today,” Alex, one of Stop’s owners, kept reminding me.
I was really curious about the triggerfish because I’ve never tried it but it was large and I wasn’t that hungry so I had to go with the smallest of the bunch, the vermillion snapper. Then, my fish was off to the grill, stuffed with lemongrass and Thai spices.
The snapper was served over chilli sauce and lemon and orange slices. Its flavor is delicate but the lemongrass and chilli sauce give it a nice kick. (The pictures really don’t do the dish justice). It was good and not bad for $7.00 (market price).
Other dishes on the Tuesday menu include: chicken or pork skewers, chicken wings with Thai barbeque sauce, the Ebisu rolls, and grilled portabella mushrooms with caramelized onions and jalapeño pesto.

(Unrelated note: The votes are in. Check out the round-up of food destinations’ local green market entries on I was just really very hungry. Mango & Lime gets an honorable mention… sorry, I had to share.)
Hey Paula! Congrats on the honorable mention! Not bad for a blogger that’s only been around for a few weeks.
Applause all around!
